The working principle of the high temperature contact angle tester is based on the Young equation, which describes the equilibrium conditions on the boundary line of the solid surface, liquid and gas. The contact angle (θ) can be calculated by the following equation:

Wherein, γSG is the interfacial tension between the solid and the gas, γSL is the interfacial tension between the solid and the liquid, and γLG is the interfacial tension between the liquid and the gas (usually air).
During the measurement process of high temperature contact angle tester, the sample is first placed on the heating table and heated to the required temperature. The morphology of the droplet on the sample surface is captured by the built-in high-resolution camera of the device. Then, the captured picture is analyzed by image analysis software to calculate the contact angle formed when the droplet contacts the solid surface.
By measuring the contact angle at different temperatures, the effect of temperature on the surface properties of the material can be studied.
